Local athletes compete in Elks Hoop Shoot

North Clay student Nate Newton was the Clay County champion in the 12-13 year old age bracket at the Elks Hoop Shoot.

Newton hit 22-of-25 free throws in the county competition and that effort advanced him to the regionals where he placed third with a 21-of-25 effort on Jan. 13 at McNally Center in Greencastle.

Patrick Newton placed runner-up in the regional hoop shoot.
Newton is a sixth grade student at North Clay.

Staunton Elementary student, Stacy Payton was the runner-up in the 8-9 year old girls' division.

Van Buren's Whitney Halfhill, Clay City Elementary's Krista Sinders, Luke Lancaster of East Side Elementary, Mark Underwood of North Clay and Newton all reached the district level after advancing from their school to the local level for Clay County Schools.

The Brazil Elks Lodge would like to thank all of the contestants for a job well done in this year's competition.
