Born Nov. 27, 1947, in Clay County, he was the son of Warren "Ole" and Virginia Egloff Aker.
Following graduation from high school, he served in the U.S. Air Force during the Vietnam War and was honorably discharged with the rank of Sergeant Dec. 1, 1968.
He was a journey lineman who built power lines and was a member of IBEW Local No. 1393.
He married Sally Batchelor Dec. 14, 2001. He had attended Carbon United Methodist Church.
He was a member of Eagles, Moose Lodge, NRA and American Legion Post No. 2.
He was a gun enthusiast, an avid motorcyclist and enjoyed spending time with his family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his father and his grandparents.
He is survived by his wife Sally, his mother Virginia Aker, Carbon, two sons, J. Brady Aker and J. Ryan Aker, both of Brazil, one daughter, Julie Wells, step-son Josh Batchelor, step-daughters, Julie Zickafoose and Jenna Zickafoose, all of Brazil, two sisters, Becky Hayes and Cheryl Aker, both of Carbon, brother Gary Aker and wife Helen, Brazil, mother-in-law Kathryn Brade, Brazil, sister-in-law Martha Britton an d husband Chubby, Brazil, brother-in-law Danny Batchelor and wife Penny, Staunton, six grandchildren, several nieces and nephews, cousins and extended family members.
Moore Funeral Home was entrusted with providing cremation services.
At John's request, there will be a celebration of his life at noon on Saturday, Feb. 2, at Sally's Place and the Duke Energy community Hall.
