The Northview freshmen basketball team applied the pressure to visiting North Central on Monday night, forcing 14 first half turnovers and cruised to a 56-30 win.

The Knights' out quicked the T-Birds with their defensive players getting in the passing lanes and disrupting North Central after the T-Birds took a brief early lead.

Justin Klaiber got off to a hot start, hitting his first three shots for North Central which led 7-4 early on. But Northview was able to get into their full court press which wreaked havoc on North Central's inbounds attempts.

Sean Hauser did much of the first quarter damage for Northview, getting to the line twice and completing a three-point play as part of a seven-point quarter.

The Knights led 14-8 after the opening six minutes and then put together a 9-0 run to open the second quarter to take control of the contest.

Caleb Mershon sank two of his four 3-pointers in the quarter and Jordan Van Horn got inside for back-to-back hoops to extend the lead to double-digits. Hunter Robertson added four points for the Knights who pushed the lead to 28-11 at the midway point.

The second half saw the Northview bench get into the action as Hunter Robertson followed two free throws from Justin Rodgers with one of his own and Jordan King found the scoring column with his first bucket to push the lead to 33-13.

Mershon dropped in five straight points before Ace Danko scored for North Central off a rebound. King scored on a turnaround jumper and Northview's lead grew to 40-18 after three quarters.

In the final period, Taylor Pinnick's score gave the Knights a 42-21 lead and Brad Smith's 3-pointer was part of a 10-3 run for Northview.

James Edmondson completed a three-point play and King finished off a eight-point second half with a free throw and jumper.

In the game, the Knights shot just under 50 percent (18-of-37) from the field while holding North Central to 33 percent (11-of-33).

Mershon led the Knights with 14 points with Hauser scored seven in the first half and Nathan Smith had four points and five rebounds.

The Knights improved to 6-9 overall and travel to Terre Haute North on Thursday before playing in the Western Indiana Conference Tourney on Saturday at West Vigo.
