Northview's wrestling team hits the road to take on Southwestern (Hanover) in the Seymour Team Regional this evening at 6 p.m.
The Rebels were second in the Jennings County Sectional on Saturday, finishing runner-up to Columbus North, which will take on Edgewood in the second match this evening. The two winners will square off to determine who advances to the team semistate.
The Rebels should be a good battle for the Knights after taking championships at 119 pounds and 130 pounds on Saturday.
Northview forfeited the 119 pound class during the sectional which could help the Knights avoid one of Southwestern's top competitors in unbeaten Michael Bartlett (42-0). The Rebels other championship came at 130 pounds as senior Michael Harmon has compiled a 37-1 mark this year and placed fourth in the state last season.
Kyle McCoy earned a championship at 130 pounds for Northview and will get a stern test if the two stay matched up at that weight class.
Northview's other three champions start at 140 pounds and give the Knights a strong foundation in the middle weight classes.
Beau Pingleton is 35-4 after taking the title at 140 and could see senior Patrick O'Neill of the Rebels who is 37-7 after placing third in the sectional. Caleb Dutrow won the 145 pound title for the Knights and will see runner-up Paul Schroeder, a senior for the Rebels who has a 32-10 mark.
Zach Stultz has compiled a 36-2 record for the Knights at 152 pounds and gets a favorable match-up with freshman Eli Lauderbaugh who was sixth in the sectional and is 21-21 overall.
In the lower weights, Northview's Skyler Hall (23-17) was third in the sectional and gets a tough draw against classmate Luke Schroeder who was runner-up on Saturday with a 35-6 record. In the 112-pound class, Luke Pingleton scored a third-place finish and draws Skyler Parker, who was sixth in the sectional and has a 13-29 mark.
In the 125-pound weight class, Brandon Mikesell placed third for the Knights and sees fourth-place Jake Smith (27-13).
The Rebels didn't place a wrestler in the top-six at the 135-pound weight class, which is where Brandon Hathaway lines up for Northview after placing third in the sectional.
Northview senior Tom Herr-Smith placed fifth in the sectional at 160 pounds and could score important points for the Knights with a win over sixth-place sophomore R.J. Rowlett who has a 13-24 record.
Southwestern has another hole at 171 pounds, which is where Brady Silvers took fourth for the Knights in the sectional and has a 12-14 mark.
Tommy Holifield could have a tough match-up at 189 if he sees senior Joe Sailer who was fourth in the sectional and has a 32-12 overall mark. In the 215-pound class Jared Staley was third overall and squares off with junior Jared Smith who was third in the sectional with a 39-4 mark.
In the heavyweight class, Beau Judd will take on another freshman at 275 in Southwestern's Dakota Tatum, a 23-17, sixth-place finisher in the sectional.
Columbus North has some highly touted wrestlers of its own with unbeaten Ethan Ott at 145 pounds and fellow state qualifier, Logan Sadtler at 152 pounds. Senior Francisco Colon is 37-1 at 112 and won a match in the state finals as well. At 160 is Jeff Tobias who is 31-3 and Stephen Arp is 28-2 at 215.
Competition begins at 6 p.m. at Seymour High School when Northview takes on the Rebels in a dual match before the Mustangs see the Bulldogs.
