He was born Sept. 11, 1930, in Royal Center, Ind., as the son of Homer R. and Evelyn Philyaw McCombs.
He graduated from Bowling Green High School.
During the Korean War he served in the U.S. Army 7th Signal Corps from August 1951 until his Honorable Discharge March 26, 1953.
Following military service he worked as a railroader involved in railroad communications until his retirement.
He married Sue T. Thompson Dec. 26, 1951.
He was a member of Masonic Lodge No. 85 and American Legion Post No. 2.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Mairiam M. Royer.
He is survived by his wife Sue, four daughters, Denise Bridgewater and husband Tom, Deedra Rector and husband Kenny, Denita Noblitt and husband Bill and Deniela Nicoson and husband Jay, 12 grandchildren, four great-grandchildren and one brother-in-law, William "Bill" Royer, Bedford.
Moore Funeral Home was chosen for cremation services. Following cremation, a private graveside memorial service will be conducted at Fairview Cemetery in Bowling Green with Rev. Mindy Huffman officiating.
