The National Weather Service has issued a severe thunderstorm warning for Clay County until 9:30 p.m., Eastern Standard Time, Tuesday.
The storm, which can produce winds up to 70 miles per hour, stretches from mile marker 0 to 47 of Interstate 70.
The counties under effect of the warning are Clay, Owen, Parke, Putnam, Vermillion and Vigo Counties.
More than 2,000 Duke Energry customers within Clay County are listed without power on the company's website shortly after 9 p.m., with most of the outages reported in the Carbon, Knightsville and Cottage Hill areas.
Officials urge motorists to use caution while traveling.
