Rev. Ronald Gene Thomas, 66, Hope, Ind., passed away unexpectedly at 1:51 a.m., Monday, Feb. 4, 2008, at Columbus Regional Hospital.
Born Sept. 24, 1941, in Brazil, he was the son of Roy F. and Mary L. Thomas.
He married Sandra Goshen on June 23, 1962, at the Carbon United Methodist Church.
Thomas was the minister at the Hope United Methodist Church. He was a clergy member in the Southern Indiana Conference, a First Responder for the Hope Volunteer Fire Dept., and had taken numerous mission trips.
He graduated in 1959 from Van Buren High School, in 1982 from Indiana State University and from the Garrett Evangelical Theology Seminary, Evanston, Ill.
Survivors include his wife, daughters, Kim Finnerty and husband Jeff, Carbon, Karen Barker and husband John, Morristown, and Kelly Jones, London, Ky., grandchildren, Dylan, Allison and Madelyn Finnerty, Zane and Kaitlyn Barker, Carrie, Thomas and Elijah Jones, brothers and sisters Sharon Hostetler and husband Larry, Wilkinson, Anita Pugh, Brazil, Dee Thomas, Lafayette, Kyler Thomas and wife Brenda, Plainfield, and Debbie James and husband Rick, Brazil.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
A memorial service will take place at 2 p.m., Friday, Feb. 8, at the Hope United Methodist Church with Rev. Jerry Crouse and Rev. Robert McMillan officiating. Visitation will be from noon until time of service.
A second memorial service will take place at 2 p.m., Saturday, at the Carbon United Methodist Church with visitation from 1 p.m. until time of service.
Cremation is planned and burial will be at a later date at the Calcutta Cemetery.
