TERRE?HAUTE -- The 2008 Bowl For Kids Sake bowling events will take place on March 1, 8, and 20 at the Terre Haute Bowling Center.
Big Brother/Big Sister hopes to raise at least $50,000 this year. The money will be used for many youth mentoring programs in Vigo, Vermillion, Sullivan, Clay and Parke counties in Indiana and Clark County, Illinois. Major sponsors of the event are Bemis Corporation of Terre Haute and Wal-Mart Supercenter on SR 46 in Terre Haute.
Board members and team captains representing area businesses and organizations are working to get more community support. The team captain who recruits the most teams will receive a gift basket, compliments of Cheeseburger in Paradise. The basket is valued at over $200 with a variety of products and a dinner certificate for eight people.
Many area merchants have donated numerous prizes to be awarded to bowlers during their two free games of bowling. Some items include gift certificates, car wash coupons, hair care products and two free round trip airline tickets good anywhere in the Continental United States, compliments of IT Travel for the individual who raises the most money.
Bowlers who raise $35 will receive a special commemorative T-shirt. Bowlers who raise more than $75 will receive the T-shirt and a sweatshirt, plus be eligible for prize drawings.
Executive Director Betty Fisher James said they provide service to more than 350 kids. She said helping the kids is worth it and fun. She said without the community support, operations of youth programs would be difficult.
