Lakers best Clay City in Tri-River match-up

CLAY CITY -- The Tri-River Conference is heating up after the Shakamak Lakers scored a make-up game win over host Clay City, 65-51, on Saturday afternoon.

The Lakers' victory makes Tuesday's home game even more important for the Eels, who take on Linton.

The Miners could win the TRC title outright with a win tomorrow night, but Clay City could tie Linton with a victory.

On Saturday afternoon, Shakamak got four 3-pointers from Tyler Richardson, who had 20 points and the Lakers hit 13 more free throws than the home team.

Clay City got to the line just eight times in the game while Shakamak hit 18-of-20 free throws as both Kevin Cook and Jordan Defore fouled out for the Eels.

Shakamak also got 16 points from Bill Newton and another 15 from Ethan Stanifer while Clay City was topped by junior Will Ken-nedywith 23 points. No other player scored more than the nine points from Levi Seymour.

The Eels (10-7 overall, 3-1 in TRC) hosts Linton on Tuesday, Shakamak (13-5) hosts Eastern Greene on Friday.
