Fire destroys semi trailer cab

Monday, February 11, 2008

An apparent electrical fire destroyed a semi trailer cab Sunday evening.

According to officials, around 6:30 p.m., a semi driver, Steve Pratt, Ky., pulled his tractor-trailer unit into the back parking lot of Pilot Travel Center, 4376 North State Road 59, for a rest stop at the facility.

When he returned and opened the door of the trailer cab, it was filled with thick smoke.

"Before he could get to a phone to call for help, the trailer was fully engulfed in flames," Jackson Township Assistant Fire Chief Troy Nichols told The Brazil Times Monday.

"The flat bed wasn't damaged, but the trailer cab, which is owned by Maverick Transportation, based in Little Rock, Ark., was a total loss."

Firefighters from Jackson, with assistance from Center Point Township Volunteer Fire Department, were able to get the fire out quickly, but, for safety reasons, they remained on the scene a little less than an hour.

Nichols said the preliminary cause of the fire at this time is electrical and no investigation would be done in the case.
