Joanna S. Carpenter, 77, Brazil died Feb. 11, 2008, at her residence surrounded by her family.
She was born Nov. 7, 1930, in Bridgeton, the daughter of Albert and Miskel Jeffries Ames.
She graduated from Bridgeton High School. She married Robert Dale Carpenter on Aug. 13, 1949. He preceded her in death on August 10, 1998. As a young woman she worked as the society editor of The Brazil Times newspaper, but as family came along she became a homemaker. Her priority was always her family first and foremost.
Joanna is survived by her daughter Kim Knox and husband Tom, Indianapolis, her son Sam Carpenter and wife Kim, Brazil, four granddaughters, Lauren Knox Rennier and husband Brad, Kelsey Knox, Tori Carpenter, and Lexi Carpenter, two sisters, Helen Horrall and Dorothy Nevins, both of Terre Haute, one brother Albert Ames and wife Barbara, Rockville, several nieces, nephews and extended family.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Robert and sister Patricia Lawson.
Services will be held Thursday at 1:00 p.m., at Lawson-Miller Chapel with Rev. Ernie Rush officiating. Burial will follow at Clear Run Cemetery in Bridgeton.
Visitation will be Thursday from 11 a.m.-1 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be directed to the Hospice of the Wabash Valley. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
