Tuesday, February 12, 2008

Hazel Mace Mayer will celebrate her 90th birthday on Sunday, Feb. 24, 2008, from 2-4 p.m. with a reception at the First Presbyterian Church Fellowship Hall.

Hazel is the daughter of Lew and Opal Butler Mace. She was born in the home of her grandparents, John and Louisa Butler on Feb. 21, 1918.

Their farm was located a half-mile west of Harmony on the National Highway, a gravel road that is now Hwy. 40.

Hazel was the first of seven Mace children to graduate from Bridgeton High School. In 1941, she graduated from the Methodist Hospital School of Nursing, Indianapolis. She was a career nurse. Hazel now resides in Greencastle at Autumn Glenn, an active-adult community.

She is being honored by her daughter, Susan Boyd, McComb, MS; sons Charles Mayer and wife Phyllis, Evansville; and Mark Mayer and wife Brenda, Plainfield; four grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Also celebrating are two brothers, John Mace and Victor 'Tub' Mace and three sisters, Edith Tucker, Seelyville; Mary Hirt, Greencastle; and Jean Seville, New Albany. A sister, Ethel Pell and brother, Jim Mace, are deceased.

All friends and family are invited to attend.
