TRI KAPPA ASSOCIATES
The Beta Chapter of the Brazil Associates of Tri Kappa met Monday evening, Feb. 4, 2008, at the First Methodist Church; after a delicious dinner served by the Ladies of the Sarah Circle of the First Methodist Church. Two delicious soups were served as well as sandwiches, fresh vegetable tray and selected desserts.
President Susie Freeman opened the meeting and introduced Delores Thomas, a former associate member of the Alpha group, who is considering joining the Beta Group. After the opening verse, Marsha Wyndham took roll call with all in attendance answering Kappa.
Following roll call, Marsha read the minutes from the Nov. and Dec. meetings. The minutes were approved. There were 17 members present for the meeting. Members were reminded to let Sandy Henderson know of any illnesses or deaths so that she can send cards as needed. Kim Stearley gave the treasurer's report which was approved by the group. No bills were submitted for payment.
Under unfinished business, the chapter was reminded that we are still accepting donations for the Humane Shelter, plastic containers for the Senior Center and popcan pull tabs are now being collected for Riley Hospital.
Ellen Packard explained the Eastside Angel Fund to members and guests.
Corresponding Secretary Jane Mercer reported that she had received a thank you note from the Mental Health for a donation which had been sent and another thank you note was received from the Family Literacy Program for the Christmas presents which had been donated to them. A thank you was also received from the Christ Dehart family for the donation which had been presented to them.
Under new business, the active Chapter requested that notice of the Valentine Dance be given. The Dance will be held on Feb. 9, 2008 at Traditions.
A nominating committee was selected to provide a slate of officers for the next election. Chairperson is Mary Ann Froderman, other members of the committee are Mary Ann Gossett and Teresa McCullough. The slate will be presented at the March meeting since the April meeting will be concerned with Inspection.
The meeting was adjourned and the closing verse recited. The monthly program was presented by Rosemary Campbell. She gave an update on the Humane Shelter and shared a few "Happy Endings" about adoptions for pets. The work with different pet adoption centers around the Untied States. There are several websites available which show pictures of pets available for adoption. TLC (Tender Loving Care) is located in a suburb of Chicago, Petfinder.com and AdoptA Sled Dog @aol.com are two other sites which will take dogs for adoption.
Rosemary reminded the members of the items which the Humane Shelter will accept for the local center: Paper towels, detergent, kitty litter, treats, rawhide treats just about anything except food. They cannot accept food because of the special diets of the animals.
The next meeting will be held on March 3, 2008. Hostesses will be Mary Ann Froderman, Cheryl Love, Dabren Clark, Gail WIlliams, and Muriel Glidden.
