Poll indicates readers in favor of McCain

Monday, February 18, 2008

Clay County residents are obviously following the 2008 presidential campaigns closely.

Based on the recent Brazil Times' online poll, it appears Republican John McCain will win the November election.

The Times asked its online readers who they thought would win the election. An astonishing 362 votes were cast in the poll with McCain gathering the most.

In addition to McCain, other options included Hillary Rodham Clinton, Barack Obama or I don't care.

McCain received 136 votes for 37.6 percent. Obama came in second with 110 votes (30.4 percent) while Clinton was third with 89 respondents voting for her (24.6 percent).

A total of 27 readers said it did not matter who won the upcoming election.

Several readers also responded to the poll question.

One reader stated, "John McCain seems to be the comeback kid and should beat Hillary Clinton by a long shot," while another reader said, "I care, but with the choices we have, this country is in big trouble. All I do know is we need someone besides a Clinton or a Bush in there. Hopefully, someone that will shut down the borders and then do something about gas prices."

Another reader stated, "I believe when Bill Clinton was in office, Hillary called the shots anyways, so put the Clintons back in there," and another reader responded with, "I really hope that Clinton wins. I think that things in America were going great when Bill was president, the economy was never better, and who do you think was behind that man making all those great decisions?"

The poll was the 31st for The Brazil Times' current website and ranked as the third-most followed.

The poll from Sept. 30, "Should Clay County adopt a smoking ban in all public buildings," garnered 377 total votes, while the poll from Oct. 21, "Following the shooting at Van Buren Elementary School, does Clay Community Schools need to increase security at all county schools," tallied 383 votes.

The current poll question is, "What should be done with Indiana University head coach Kelvin Sampson?"

Readers have four choices to respond to, including:

* He should remain IU's coach,

* He should be fired,

* He should be suspended, or

* It doesn't matter.

As always, readers are encouraged to leave comments regarding the poll question.
