Beulah Murphy, 86, Brazil, passed away at Clay County Health Center at 9:28 a.m., Feb. 18, 2008, following an extended illness.
She was born in Summerset Ky., Feb. 13, 1922, to Charles and Bessie (Brady) Vaught.
She married Richard Murphy in June 1975 and he passed away in January 1991. Beulah worked as a waitress at the Silver Starr and Blue Bonnet restaurants and Palmers Tavern. She also worked in the Dietary Department of Clay County Hospital for more than 10 years.
She enjoyed vegetable gardening and working outdoors. She also enjoyed flower gardening and will be remembered for having beautiful flowers.
She was preceded in death by her parents, as well as three brothers Dean, Raymond, and Merle Vaught, four sisters: Harriett Koch, Helen Morlan, Myrtle Parker, Bernice Mosteller, and a grandchild Johnathan Batista.
Surviving are her children Wendell Shelp, Brazil, Wayne Shelp, Indianapolis, and Bessie Batista, Terre Haute, five grandchildren, one great-grandson and a great-great-granddaughter.
Burial will be at Calcutta Cemetery Thursday at 1 p.m. At Mrs. Murphy's request, there will not be services held. Lawson-Miller Chapel has been entrusted with her care.
