'Brazil Buzz' author to speak at meeting

Thursday, February 28, 2008

The Clay County Historical Society will be meeting Monday, March 3, at 7 p.m., in the lower level of the museum at 100 E. National Ave.

The guest speaker will be Mary Lou Sartor, writer of the popular "Brazil Buzz" and author of a poetry book, "Simple Poetry". An excerpt from her book: "The Feed Sack Dress."

My mother made me happy

One hot August day

She gathered up two feed sacks

And began to stitch away

The pattern was cut from newspaper

That she so carefully laid out

She pined it to the front of me

And turned me all about

Then she added some rickrack

To add that special touch

Oh, it was lovely

And I loved it so much

It was only made from feed sacks

But I remember it today

I felt just like a princess

And mom had made my day

-Mary Lou Sartor

The guest speaker for the April 7 meeting will be Marlene Lu, author of "Walking' the Wabash", an exploration into the underground railroad in West Central Indiana. The public is always invited to our monthly meetings.
