He was born in Clay County in 1919, the son of Lawrence and Hattie Mae Girton.
He went to Van Buren High School and worked at Arketex following school. He later worked in shipping and receiving at Allison's GM Plant in Indianapolis, retiring in April of 1983.
He was a member of Ebenezer Church and was active in the Good Samaritan group at church. He was also a Mason in the Knightsville Lodge for more than 50 years.
Survivors include his two daughters and sons in law, Nancy and Jim Bohler, Danville, Ind., and Sheila and Robin Allin Barrington, Ill., five grandchildren Jaime Bohler Smith and husband Scott, Jason Bohler, Derek Allin, Rob Allin and Christopher Allin, one great-grandson Bryce Allin, two nieces Janice Gooch and Marsha Jackson and a large extended family.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife of 67 years, Ena Girton, and infant sister Lorene Girton, three sisters Estelle Parr, Audie Girton, and Ruby Ames, and one nephew Lawrence Parr.
Masonic services will be held Saturday (today) at 2 p.m. at Lawson-Miller Chapel. Funeral services will begin after the Masonic services, with Rev. William Price officiating. Burial will follow at Calcutta Cemetery. Visitation will be Saturday from noon-2 p.m.
