She was born March 12, 1909, in Carbon, to Lee and Lottie (Pell) Hillis. Irene enjoyed quilting and spending time with her family. She was a member of the Van Buren Home Ec Club and the Lena Good Neighbors Club. She was a past member of the Carbon Eastern Star and the Ebenezer Ladies Aid, and a lifetime member of Ebenezer Church. She enjoyed life, always had a smile on her face, and loved people.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Lee and Lottie Elsie (Pell) Hillis, husband Dale Walden, brothers John B. Pell and Raymond Hillis and sister Thelma Hillis.
She is survived by her daughter Geraldine Gerri Wells and husband Marvin, Brazil, grandchildren Cheri Kellum and husband Michael, Bowling Green, Tracy Snow and husband Fred, Brazil, Dave Harding, Harmony, Marvin Wells, Jr. and wife Audra, Brazil, great-grandchildren Dustin Kellum, Noah Short, Kaylee and Hannah Wells, step great-granddaughter Kyla Snow, as well as many nieces, nephews and extended family members.
Services will be at Lawson-Miller Chapel, Monday, March 3, 2008, at 1 p.m., with Pastor Bill Price officiating. Burial will follow at Calcutta Cemetery. Visitation will be at Lawson-Miller Chapel, Monday, March 3, 2008, from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Ebenezer Church Building Fund, envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
