"We have always wanted to participate in a marathon of some type as a way to get fit," Bra-Zil Billies Team Captain Amy Reynolds told The Brazil Times. "We are three really good friends who have chose to come together as a team and help fight breast cancer."
Reynolds and teammates Andrea Gearald and Tiffany Foster said they hope to "partake in one of the most incredible events of a lifetime," the Breast Cancer 3-Day national event on Aug. 8-10, in Chicago, Illinois.
The proceeds collected by the teams will support breast cancer research, education, screening and treatment.
"Walking in rain or shine, sleet or snow, we have been busy training to prepare for this walk," Reynolds said about the next six months of training. "I haven't personally been touched by cancer, but we walk for mothers, daughters, grandmothers, aunts, friends, ourselves and for you."
The team hopes the community will also get involved by joining Clickers 4 A Cause and train with them each Monday, Wednesday, and Friday until August 5.
"We hope that people will meet us at the Forest Park Pool at 6 p.m., for our 3-5 mile training walks," Reynolds said.
People may participate in the training walks for a donation of $1 per person, which Reynolds said would used by the group to help reach their goal of $2,200 per team member ($6,600).
"People will be helping to fight breast cancer one step at a time," Reynolds said.
The team is also participating in various local activities in the American Cancer Society Clay County Relay For Life 14-hour event scheduled at the YMCA on May 3-4.
"We wanted to do something together," Reynolds said. "We are a team of women wanting to do something worth-while, support breast cancer research was a natural decision for us to make."
