Experience and a love for the job are motivation for Victoria Wheeler to run for County Clerk.
Wheeler, 55, has been a resident of Clay County all her life. She has been employed at the courthouse since 1989 and is a Republican.
She started working for Prosecutor Modesitt, became office administrator for Jim Deal and worked for Dave Thomas.
She currently works with Mary C. Brown, Republican, who became Clay County Clerk in 2001.
"I want to continue to run the office as smoothly as Mary," she said. "All the girls that work there have been there a long time and we all get along."
Wheeler said working with the girls is like family and she doesn't want to change that. She said people ask her why she would want to run since it is a lot of work.
She added she has the experience in running the office and is familiar with how elections work.
"I love my job and what I do," she said. "I enjoy it."
Wheeler said she loves the community and admitted she is a bit of a homebody and family person.
She has two children and grandchildren.
She said she gets involved with their school functions, such as softball. Wheeler said she is ready to take the next step in her life.
Wheeler is running un-opposed for Posey Precinct, and has competition from Democrats Cathleen M. (Cathy) Bales and Samantha R. Conners for Clay County Clerk of the Circuit Court.
