It has been four years since Dottie King joined the Clay Community Schools Board of Trustees, but she is not ready end her tenure yet.
King is running for re-election for the District 3 representative on the school board.
She has lived in the Clay Community School district since 1973, and lived in the county since 1979.
When King originally ran for the school board, she believed her experience in education would help CCS reach its full potential.
She served as board president during the 2006-2007 school year.
King, a mathematics professor at Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College, said she would like to remain on the board for continuity.
"There is a learning curve on the board. It took me about a year of being on the board to understand all of the rules and funds," King said.
She said she would also like to see the building project through.
"I'm an optimist. I still think we can move forward and put our good foot forward," she said.
When not teaching, King volunteers in the corporation. She and her husband have six kids, the youngest in seventh-grade and the oldest a teacher in the corporation.
"I follow my kids," she explained.
