Television station gives county Popcorn Festival some publicity

Thursday, March 6, 2008

Clay County Popcorn Festival received a boost in publicity from a popular program, "Across Indiana".

Glen Brown, Popcorn Festival of Clay County Association, said he was unaware of the showing until residents called and informed him.

"Several people called and said they saw it," he said.

Brown said the producer of the show came out to film while doing a segment on the festival and Orville Redenbacher.

"It was really surprising," Brown said. "The producer was supposed to call us."

Brown went online to WFYI Indianapolis, the station for "Across Indiana," and accessed the episode. The segment is called "putting the POP in corn" and is episode 1809.

Brown said the producer is supposed to send him a copy of the episode.

"I think everyone needs to see it," he said. "The Mayor, Chamber and all should see how well they portrayed the county and people."

Brown said it is a great segment. The festival is growing bigger each year. He said the segment captured the festival well and gave the festival a family feeling.
