Seward and her husband moved from Arizona to Indiana in 2003, and settled in Clay County in 2006.
Shortly after arriving in the community, Seward took an interest in the school system when reading local letters to the editor.
"I couldn't believe the wide range of opinions," Seward said.
Seward's children are grown, and her granddaughter goes to school in Arizona, but she still wants to make a difference in future generations.
"Somebody needs to get involved for things to progress," she said.
She hopes to bring similar resources to the schools that she sees being made available to her granddaughter in Arizona.
