She was born July 10, 1917, in Cardonia, the daughter of Samuel Chaney and Goldie Mae Spaulding Chaney. She graduated from Van Buren High School, Class of 1935. As a young girl, Lelia was known to be a good dancer and excelled at acrobatics.
On Sept. 6, 1938, she married William E. "Bill" Turner, the love of her life. She and Bill had a good life together, with her running the household and Bill working at Allison's. Her past times included oil and china painting. She was a member of the Raccoon Valley China Painters Guild and the World Organization of China Painters. She and Bill also enjoyed Bible study and activities at Benwood Mt. Lebanon Church where they were members.
Lelia was preceded in death by her parents, her three sisters Thelma Weaver, Betty Hill, and Shirley Douglas, two brothers Samuel Chaney and Harold Chaney, and a sister-in-law, Jane Chaney.
Survivors include her sister Mary Warnick of Dearborn, Mich., sister-in-law, Mildred Chaney, many nieces, nephews and a large extended family.
Services will be held Saturday, at 1 p.m., at French Funeral Home, with Rev. William Price officiating. Burial will follow at Calcutta Cemetery. Visitation will be Saturday from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. Light a candle in her memory at www.frenchfuneralhome.com
