James R. Nevins, 89, rural Brazil, went to be with the Lord, Saturday, March 15, 2008, with his loving wife and son by his side.

He was born Jan. 31, 1919, in Rosedale, Ind., as the son of Frank W. and Flora E. Cox Nevins. He attended Coxville Elementary School and Rosedale High School. He married Maxine McVey, May 17, 1947, at the Methodist Church in Brazil.

He moved to Dick Johnson Township in 1936. He had his own trucking business hauling lime and coal and he worked for the Big-4 Railroad and at Bedwell Tires. He began his own farming operation in 1952 raising cattle and hogs and growing grain.

He was a member of the Dick Johnson Twp. Volunteer Fire Dept. for 24 years, retiring in 1986. He was a member of Bee Ridge Congregational Church for more than 40 years having been baptized by Rev. L. Page there in 1961.

He was preceded in death by his parents and five brothers, Lester, Frank, Marion and infant brothers, Dale and Eugene Nevins.

He is survived by his wife, Maxine, one son, Dennis Nevins, two brothers, Ross Eldon Nevins and wife Evelyn, Brazil and Bill Nevins and wife Dorothy, South Bend, one sister, Marjorie Anderson, Brazil, sister-in-law, Ruth McVey, Evansville, special friend Kenneth Carpenter, Brazil, several cousins and other extended family.

Visitation will be 10 a.m.-1 p.m., Tuesday, March 18, at Moore Funeral Home. Funeral services will be 1 p.m., Tuesday, with Pastor Jeff Bridgewater officiating and special services by the Dick Johnson Twp. Volunteer Fire Department. Burial will follow at Bee Ridge Cemetery.
