Harmony Happenings

Wednesday, March 19, 2008

Several people have asked me about the pig.

I reported a couple of weeks ago that a small black pig came up to the fence as if to say, "Hello."

However, his side of the fence had been an abandoned property for several years.

He was "dirty as a pig" and seemed hungry.

I have looked for him numerous times but never did find the little porker.

Don McCollister, Town Council, had tried unsuccessfully to find the owner.

I had called Don the day I saw the small pig because two large stray dogs were aggravating it. A few other neighbors saw the piglet, too.

Don said the little guy had cleaned up the spills from a couple of neighborhood bird feeders and then just seemed to disappear. He had looked for him, too.

In talking to Don, I found out the little piggy was not allowed in Harmony -- no critters except dogs and cats are allowed.

Being an animal lover I just hope he found his way home and that home is outside the town limits.

If not, run piggy, run.

Harmony U.M. Church is sponsoring an Easter Egg Hunt for all the kids at Harmony Park on Saturday, March 22.

This is an annual event the church folks and the kids all seem to enjoy. Hopefully, the monsoon will have passed by then and the kids can have a good time hunting eggs. Otherwise it may be like hunting eggs in a cranberry bog or a rice-patty.

Sunrise Service will be at Harmony UMC this year.

Good Friday service will be at Lena at 7 p.m. Lena and Harmony alternate these programs each year. First Methodist will have Good Friday Service at noon.

Harmony will serve Sunrise breakfast on Easter morning.

The service starts at 6:30 a.m. with breakfast immediately following in Fellowship Hall.

The menu will include breakfast casseroles, muffins, rolls, juice, coffee, tea, and milk. Everyone is welcome to attend.

Harmony United Methodist Women will meet on Monday, March 31st in Fellowship Hall. The meeting starts at 7:00 p.m..

Opal Schopmeyer and I will be preparing the supper and I will do the lesson.

If time permits, I am planning a hands-on activity.

We may see how organized I am not.

Anyone who did not get a copy of the 2008 HUMW schedule should let me know. I have extras.

All ladies are welcome to attend the meetings. We have fun but use our time and funds to help mothers and children in need.

We had family and friends over for dinner on Sunday.

I had battled the flu and allergies for about 3 weeks and thought I might have to cancel. Finally the bugs seemed to have worked their way out of my system.

The closer spring gets the better I feel.

We had 14 people for baked turkey and all the trimmings.

Each family brought tasty additions to surround the bird.

Everyone has so many places to go on Easter that we decided to have family dinner on Palm Sunday this year. It worked well.

Cousin Nete Clark always has funny stories to tell.

The ladies around the kitchen table after lunch were kidded that they should "keep it down in there".

There was just too much laughing going on in that room.

Nete's friend J. R. told us about various experiences truck driving across country.

He talked of almost stepping on an alligator in Florida and watching the tornado approach in Texas.

Jim and Sandy Jenkins told us about their late night vacuum cleaner salespeople.

The longer the story went the funnier it became.

That launched stories of other door-to-door sales people and appliance malfunctions.

I shared my recent vacuum disaster. The dreaded appliance ate several holes in the kitchen floor last week.

Now I have to try to find the vinyl pattern to make patches or most likely replace the entire kitchen floor. (Word of warning: If the front roller of the upright breaks, and you are tempted to go ahead to use the wand to clean blinds or ceiling fan blades,…Don't. The roller on the vacuum bottom continues to whirl and literally grinds holes in the floor).

Happy Birthday to Jeri Bowman and Cheryl Brinson (25th), Phyllis Schlatter (28th).
