Ruby Reed, 87, Clay City, died March 19, 2008, at 12:45 p.m., at the Clay County Health Care Center, Brazil.
She was born March 2, 1921, in LaFollette, Tenn., the daughter of Sylvester Lay and Lucy Lay Grant.
On Aug. 16, 1948, she married Carl K. Reed. He preceded her in death Nov. 6, 1990.
Ruby was a nursing assistant at several nursing homes in Clay County and in Jasonville. She enjoyed being a homemaker.
She was a member of Good Hope Baptist Church, Martz Community Church and last attended Abundant Life Church of Christ in Clay City.
She enjoyed playing the piano and the organ. When she could, Ruby enjoyed traveling and shopping with friends and family.
Survivors include her children, James T. Reed, South Bend, Luella J. Hubbell, Tennessee, Stephanie Brown and husband Tim, Clay City, Linda S. Kilgore and husband Paul, Elwood, Ind., daughter-in-law, Debbie Reed, Saline City, several grandchildren and great-grandchildren and extended family.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Carl Reed, two sons, Stephen and William C. Reed, and one brother Millard R. Lay.
Services will be held at 2 p.m., Saturday, at Schoppenhorst Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Sink Cemetery. Visitation will be Saturday from 12-2 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to Vista Care Hospice. Envelopes are available at the funeral home.
