The Clay County Health Department will be hosting a Pandemic Influenza Tabletop Exercise on Friday, April 18, 2008, starting promptly at 1 p.m.
The exercise will be held in the Commissioners' Courtroom on the first floor of the Clay County Courthouse.
The Tabletop Exercise (TTX) will test the preparedness plan and planning efforts of the Clay County Health Department, Clay County Emergency Preparedness partners and members of the community to respond to a pandemic influenza outbreak.
The exercise will be testing communication capabilities between intra- and inter-county agencies, distribution of countermeasures, identifying local priority groups that would first receive limited resources and identifying triage and alternate care site issues.
This exercise has been organized and will be conducted by the Purdue Homeland Security Institute with input from the Indiana State Department of Health (ISDH) and Indiana Department of Homeland Security (IDHS) with live interaction via conference calling and internet capabilities between the other District 7 counties.
All Indiana Districts will be tested, but will be played from each county.
The local health departments have been designated lead coordinating agency, but cannot accomplish this without the help and effort of local participants.
The Clay County Health Department will have scenario information available for participants during the tabletop exercise.
Several agencies and businesses in Clay County have already begun preparing for pandemic influenza and we encourage those agencies to bring and refer to existing plans, policies, procedures and protocols.
This exercise is intended to begin to help Indiana communities prepare for what "scientists and biologists continue to believe -- that a pandemic is not a matter of if, but when."
