As a teacher, parent, farmer and long-time resident of Clay County, Barbara E. Nicoson believes she has the skills and experience to be an asset to the Clay Community School Corporation Board of Trustees.

Nicoson is running for the District 4 seat on the school board.

She received her degree in Elementary Education from Purdue University, and taught briefly in Boone County.

Nicoson and her husband, Jon, raised 2 kids and run their family farm outside Cory.

Nicoson does the record keeping for the farm and was a Girl Scout brownie leader for several years.

She also has taught Sunday school.

Her time in various leader positions gives Nicoson experience in conflict resolution and decision-making.

"I think I would be good at separating the really important things from the fluff," Nicoson said.

The grandmother of five believes in the need for education.

"The education of our children is the most important responsibility for our future, and the decision the school board in their four years affects us for generations," Nicoson said.
