Breaking News: Howesville Farm Service employee injured in accident

Wednesday, March 26, 2008

The Clay County Sheriff's Department is currently investigating how a male employee at Howesville Farm Service was injured in an accident around noon Wednesday.

Details are sketchy at this time, but Sheriff Mike Heaton confirmed to The Brazil Times an employee suffered serious injuries and was taken to St. Vincent Clay Hospital to be airlifted to an undisclosed Indianapolis hospital.

For unknown reasons apparently one employee attempted to climb onto a piece of slow moving equipment when their foot was caught between a tire and a step of a front-end loader. The employee was forced to the ground and pulled under the equipment, which ran over the lower portion of his body.

Although the employee suffered head, neck and chest injuries, Heaton was unable to verify if it was caused from the fall or the equipment. The name of the victim is not being released at this time.

Heaton said the driver of the equipment involved in the accident was sent home from work for the day while officers continued to investigate the accident.

The Brazil Times will provide further updates as information becomes available.
