Cookies for injured soldiers

Wednesday, March 26, 2008

Local girl scouts are hoping to send cookies to the troops in Terre Haute who have returned from Iraq.

Troop leader Cherise Ogborn said the girls decided they wanted to help the soldiers.

She said many people send the troops overseas gift boxes, but sometimes people forget the troops we have back home in hospitals.

The girls have several boxes of cookies left they want to send the troops.

She said they are going to send them to Terre Haute because the cost of shipping them to the Washington, Va., is around $1,000.

Ogborn said the girls have sold two cases of cookies already for the troops.

When they set up a table, they sell the cookies and customers can also buy a box for the troops.

"The girls will get to perform a community service," she said.

The troops, 243 from the junior high and 575, comprised of 5th graders, will be having a table set up on today from 5-8 p.m. in front of the Movie Gallery.
