BROWNSTOWN -- One week after a break in the weather allowed the 11th Annual Indiana Icebreaker to get into the books at Brownstown Speedway, track officials were able to get the track into shape following more rain during the week to get the first regular season show completed.
Four classes competed at the fairgrounds Saturday evening with Clint DeMoss taking the first regular UMP Modified feature with Jeremy Hines grabbing the UMP Super Stock checkers. Bub Cummings took the bomber event and Shawn McIntosh won the Pure Stock feature.
In the modified feature, Matt Boknecht led the first circuit of the night, but DeMoss worked his way forward around Kent Robinson to grab the second place spot in the early laps.
DeMoss moved up to challenge Boknecht with some side-by-side action.
Boknecht chose the high line with DeMoss looking for his opening on the bottom. On lap seven, DeMoss completed the pass for the point and pulled out to a slight advantage as the laps ticked by.
As DeMoss added to his lead, Boknecht had Robinson behind in third, seeking the second spot. Hobbs held down the fourth position followed by a tight battle for the fourth spot between Greg Amick and John DeMoss.
The pair dueled it out down the stretch, swapping the fourth spot in the waning laps as Clint DeMoss stretched his feature lead to as much as a half straight advantage.
Amick eventually fell out of the race with a few laps remaining as Boknecht took second ahead of Robinson, Hobbs and John DeMoss.
Matt Bex led Jared Bailey, Doug Adkins, Chris Streeval and Jimmy Hayden across the line to compete the top-10.
Forty-three modifieds unloaded to begin the afternoon.
In the super stock feature, Hines shook off a couple of early caution flags and an early challenge from Jay Deckard to take the victory.
Hines pulled out to a sizable lead following a lap 14 caution with Alan Magner back in second place.
Magner had his hands full down the stretch with Jay Deckard, but would hold on for the runner-up finish.
Nathan Patman was the hard-charger in the event, moving all the way up from a 19th starting position in the A-Main to nab a fifth-place finish behind Tyler Cain and Deckard.
David Brewer grabbed sixth ahead of Marty Cooper, Jim Pfeiffer, Steve Sheeks and Kenny Carmichael in the top-10.
In the bomber main event, Bub Cummings won his heat race along with Jamey Wilson and Hobbs, but it was Cummings who would finish on the point.
Chris Wilson, Greg Roberts, Wilson and Josh Hayes rounded out the top-five.
The Midwest Sprint Car Series invades the ¼ mile oval on Saturday night for a feature that will pay $2,000 to the winner. The UMP Super Stocks and Pure Stocks will also be on hand.
