He was born Feb. 18, 1923, in Diamond, Ind., as the son of William E. and Victoria A. Walton Jenkins. He attended school in Bridgeton. During World War II he served in the U.S. Army and participated in the Battle of Luzon in the Pacific Theater. He worked as a coal miner and had also worked as a truck driver for Mobil Oil Company. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and a member of Masonic Lodge 169. He had attended the First Baptist Church of Brazil.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one sister, Francis L. Phelps, infant brother William Wayne Jenkins, and brothers Paul E. and Albert Jenkins and a good companion, Goldie Carr.
He is survived by four nieces, Beverly White, Linda Sanders, Vicki Mounts and Marquita Kenyon, and three nephews, Robert Jenkins, William Jenkins and Richard Jenkins.
Visitation will be 4-8 p.m., Thursday, April 10, at Moore Funeral Home. Funeral services will be 1 p.m., Friday, at the funeral home with burial to follow at Clear Run Cemetery in Bridgeton, Ind. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis Tenn., 38105-1942.
