He was born Feb. 19, 1929, in Terre Haute, as the son of Charles and Rita Leach Welch. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War until he was Honorably Discharged. He had worked at Penn Central and A&O Railroads, Pells Construction and Cunningham Construction but spent most of his time with the Indiana Gas Company as a serviceman and gas line repairman. He attended Community Missionary Church. He enjoyed being outdoors fishing and hunting and digging for herbs.
He married Betty Lou Baysinger Oct. 14, 1946.
He was preceded in death by his parents, four sisters, Gertrude Witty, Ruby Carlin, Cecilia Schaffer and Maudie Eavey and two brothers, Richard L. Welch and Bernard Welch.
He is survived by his wife Betty Lou, three daughters, Judy Ornduff, Fonda Kidwell and Betty Joann Romine, all of Brazil, two sons, Larry Welch, Brazil, and Gary David Welch, Indianapolis, one sister, Ada Noanes, Spencer, nine grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren, three great-great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews and close friend, Jack Bemis.
