The United Way of the Wabash Valley received special recognition at the Indiana Aassociation of United Ways 2008 State Leaders Conference on April 3.
The Golden Excellence in Media (GEM) awards luncheon was held at the Hilton North in Indianapolis.
The 93 total entries in the contest were divided into three divisions relative to the amount of money raised by each United Way. Entries were judged on innovation, accomplishment of purpose, production quality and measurable success. Categories included annual reports and newsletters, campaign communication in print, campaign videos and special events.
United Way of the Wabash Valley received first place in the radio/television category for their public service announcement featuring Indianapolis Colts' head coach Tony Dungy and 2007 campaign chairperson Pat Ralston, First National Bank.
"It was an honor to be a part of the United Way of the Wabash Valley's public service announcement with Coach Dungy and I appreciate the Indiana Association of Untied Ways recognizing our efforts with a GEM award," Ralston said.
United Way of the Wabash Valley received second place for marketing efforts for the youth program, Success by 6.
Success by 6 is an initiative to provide every child the opportunity to gain basic reading skills and enter kindergarten ready to learn.
United Way of the Wabash Valley's annual report and newsletter along with campaign communications each received third-place awards.
