There's enough alcohol already

To the Editor:

I have noticed several of the orange signs around town indicating that certain stores have applied for liquor licenses. Wal-Mart has one up right now.

I also know that GasAmerica is going to be applying for a license in the very near future.

I want you to understand that I am not a tea totaler, but I do wonder why we need more places to sell alcohol. Casey's and Speedway sell beer, Aldi's sells wine, a grocery store, two drug stores, two liquor stores and assorted bars and clubs in town sell carry out.

Do we really need more?

I would think Wal-Mart would better serve the community by lowering some of its prices, stocking their shelves with merchandise needed and caring more about the community.

If they really want to sell something else besides what they already have, then maybe they could add produce or something like that.

I know that all people who ring up this merchandise must be 21 and all customers, regardless of how old they look, must be carded.

Quite frankly, I don't like to have to stand in line waiting for someone to find an I.D. and not have it and then argue about how old they are, etc.

You know those people on riding mowers using them for transportation? Maybe having alcohol so available in our town is the reason they must use these mowers.

Quite frankly, I think we already have a gluttony of licenses out there and that no more should be issued.
