Harmony Happenings

Wednesday, April 16, 2008

Harmony United Methodist Women will meet on Monday evening April 28 in Fellowship Hall at the church. All ladies are invited to attend the meetings. This month Kenda Dierdorf will lead the lesson. Rita Jones and Debbie Gottsche will be the hostesses. The group will discuss the upcoming Mother/Daughter Banquet and fundraising efforts. Meetings start at 7 p.m. on the fourth Monday of each month.

Next Sunday's Sermon at Harmony U.M.C.will be "That's Right." Pastor Bob Kumpf has been giving us a teaser the week before to prepare for his sermon. This weeks scripture comes from Romans 4:5. Everyone is always welcome to the Worship Service and to stay for Sunday School. I know I have had to miss some Sundays lately and the week just does not seem right. It always goes better when we start the week with church.

Breden United Methodist is hosting Operation Classroom Packing Day on Thursday, April 24 starting at 9 a.m. They need donations of classroom, sewing, and general medical supplies brought to the church. These items are packed in small boxes and given to needed children. Breden is in Terre Haute but several local churches collect supplies for packing day.

Pastor Bob is organizing a trip to the Indianapolis Indians Baseball Game on Friday, May 16. Anyone who is interested should contact him for ticket information 448-2917.

Danielle Brinson is preparing a PowerPoint presentation of her mission trip to Mississippi. She will be sharing this information during Worship Service in the next couple of weeks.

Chris and Susie Pell have returned from a great vacation. At least they were greeted with better weather here even if they did have to get back to the regular routine. Glad you had a safe trip.

Good luck to the young lady who had a job interview at Methodist Hospital this week. I won't jinx it by mentioning any names but she would be a terrific pediatric nurse for them.

Denny and I headed to Mario's for supper on Friday evening but could find no parking place. Instead, we went to Lucio's for catfish and nachos grande. Although you can't beat Mario's salsa, the rice and catfish at Lucio's are very tasty. I would have thought that we could not use another Mexican restaurant in such a small area but their foods are different. Just as the menu from a North Carolina table might be different from one from Iowa, not all Mexican restaurants are alike either. We like both of them.

Lucio's décor is very lively. It has wonderful murals by an Illinois artist. Our waitress said that the artist comes from the same area of Chiapas as the restaurant folks. The colorful tables and wall decorations add to the atmosphere.

Mario's has always been a favorite of our family. The recent room addition has added even more seating capacity on the east side. Lumber piled at the back may be an indication of even more work to be done. They have added some new tables, too. The new tables look like paintings have been laminated on the top of the colorful surface. They are very attractive.

I tried the fried banana at Mario's for the first time this past week. In all the many times we have gone there, I have never had room for dessert. This week I stopped by for a salad in between errands and grocery shopping. The waitress brought me a free dessert, when I sat down, so I saved room for it. Fried banana is much better than it sounds. It is not greasy. The fresh banana is inside a thin, crispy cinnamon/sugar tortilla. It is all drizzled with chocolate with a shot of whipped cream. Yummy.

I would have thought we would not have needed another pizza place either but almost everyone loves pizza. We have not had a chance to try Little Caesar's but I am sure we will make the time. It is great to have new restaurants coming to the county.

Can you tell that there has been no time for toast with my coffee this morning? Waking at 5:00 AM on Wednesdays to finish the Harmony Happenings usually begins with breakfast. Running behind schedule today, there was just coffee. Just like shoppers should eat before going shopping, writers should eat breakfast or all the news is about eating. I am already thinking about that chicken chef salad from Chaney's planned for lunch today.

Grab some goodies and head to one of our beautiful parks. We are blessed with wonderful and well-kept parks in this area. Enjoy.

Happy April Birthday to Kathleen Sanders (17th), Jason Pell (20th), Erie Bell (22nd), Gail Weaver (27th), Mitch Maurer (28th) and Damien Tackett (29th). Happy Anniversary to Mr. & Mrs. Warren Bell (18th).
