He was born Dec. 22, 1927, in Indianapolis, the son of William Andrew Mitchell and Bertha Alice (McGuire) Mitchell.
A World War II Army veteran, Mitchell returned home to become a motor vehicle service driver of the United States Postal Service in Indianapolis.
Mitchell was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters, Bertha Alice Burns and Mary Frances Mitchell, and a brother, Catley Ernest Mitchell.
Survivors include his daughter Jacquline Murray and husband David, Brazil, son James R. Mitchell and wife Sharon, Cloverdale, and a brother Bedford Mitchell, Cloverdale, six grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be held at Whitaker Funeral Home, Cloverdale, on Sunday, April 13, 2008, from noon-2 p.m. Alan Slover will officiate the funeral services, which will begin shortly after 2 p.m. Mitchell will be buried at Cloverdale Cemetery.
