The Clay-Owen-Vigo Solid Waste Management District will host its annual White Goods Collection/Heavy Trash event for residents of Clay County, 9 a.m.-3 a.m., Saturday, April 26, at Wallace Disposal, Knightsville Road, south of United States 40.
The purpose of the event is to provide county residents with a means of disposal for items that cannot be placed out with weekly trash.
The United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) regulations require that CFC's and HCFC's be recovered and tagged by an EPA certified technician before they can be disposed of for recycling.
Disposal can be very costly for white goods containing Freon such as refrigerators, freezers, dehumidifiers and air conditioners.
The event is for disposal of household items only. Items that will not be accepted include commercial waste, trash bags of waste, burn barrels, tires, batteries or liquid waste.
No early drop offs will be accepted and residents may be asked for proof of residency.
There is no charge to residents, but that could change in the future. The organization is not funded by tax dollars and is a non-profit entity funded through a tipping fee imposed at the landfill in Vigo County that provides for the programs within the three counties of the district.
All questions regarding the event should be directed to the Clay-Owen-Vigo Solid Waste District by calling 443-0168 or 1-800-387-3380.
