SALINE CITY -- Firefighters worked together to put out a house fire and save the homeowners' possessions Wednesday night.

Shortly before 6:30 p.m., firefighters from Center Point, Clay City and Cory volunteer fire departments were dispatched to a fully engulfed modular home fire at the corner of Fourth and Planet streets in Saline City. Perry Township Volunteer Fire Department also provided water assistance.

Before emergency response personnel arrived, two bystanders, who wished to remain anonymous, broke a window and entered the home to search for the homeowner, Polly Johnson. She was later located with family members.

The fire damage to the home was extensive, while the garage was a total loss.

Although still on the scene of the fire, Fire Chief Aaron Morgan said a cause has yet to be determined because firefighters were still trying to get water on hotspots in the ceilings and walls.

"We're trying to put out the hotspots and save some of the homeowners belongings right now," he told The Brazil Times.

Members of the Clay County Sheriff's Department assisted at the scene.
