She was born June 5, 1917, in Harmony, the daughter of Andrew Hamilton and Rose Britton Hamilton.
She graduated from Van Buren High School in 1935.
On July 4, 1936, she married Claude L. Hayes Jr. She and Claude owned and operated the Hayes Brothers Market in Brazil for many years. He preceded her in death July 8, 1991.
Margaret was a member of the First United Methodist Church and she enjoyed singing in the church choir. She was a devoted wife, mother and homemaker.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, sisters Kathryn Hamilton Clark and Betty Hamilton Summers, and brother Joseph Hamilton.
Survivors include son and daughter-in-law Mike and Susie Hayes, Indianapolis, grandchildren, Greg Hayes and wife Anne, Scott Hayes and wife Elizabeth, and Jennifer Jervis and husband Daniel, all of Brazil, nine great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and extended family.
Services will take place at 1 p.m., Saturday, at Lawson-Miller Chapel, with Pastor Tony Alstott officiating. Burial will follow at Roselawn Memorial Park, Terre Haute.
Visitation will be Saturday from 11 a.m. until time of service.
