He was born Sept. 26, 1921, in Ashboro, Ind., as the son of Lester H. and Louise Lawrence Miller. He graduated from Ashboro High School with the Class of 1939. During World War II he served in the U.S. Army with the 16th Signal Battalion, spending 25 months in the Pacific Theatre before his Honorable Discharge. He married Mary O. Harris, May 21, 1943.
He was employed for almost 40 years with the telephone company beginning with Citizens Telephone Company, GTE and most recently, Verizon. He was a member of American Legion Post No. 2, VFW Post No. 1127 and Center Point Masonic Lodge No. 597, where he had been a member for over 50 years.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one sister, Helen Jeanne Pritchard and one brother, Charles "Bud" Miller.
He is survived by his wife Mary, one daughter, Linda Kimmerly and husband Kevin, Superior, Ariz., grandchildren Cindy McDonald and husband Richard and Doug Tisdale and fiancée Shawnee Steuerwald, one brother, Donald Miller and wife Mary Lou, four great-grandchildren, Nick and Matt McDonald and Kendra and Nathan Tisdale and several nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be 4-8 p.m., Thursday, April 24, at Moore Funeral Home. Funeral services will be 11 a.m., Friday.
Burial will follow at Ashboro Cemetery. Should friends so desire, expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations to Western Indiana Community Action Agency, Indigent Medical Care, P.O. Box 1018,Terre Haute, 47808.
