Northview singer headed to New York

Friday, April 25, 2008

Northview High School junior Elizabeth Maurey recently competed in a high school scholarship for young singers at DePauw University, Greencastle.

The competition was sponsored by Classical Singer Magazine, and colleges and universities around the country.

Universities such as DePauw have hosted regional competitions since last fall.

Finalists from the first-round locations are eligible to advance to a second-round competition, which will take place in New York City, May 25-26.

Maurey placed third at DePauw in competition, which qualifies her to continue to the second round.

The family is currently raising money for the New York City trip and has planned a chicken noodle dinner Sunday in conjunction with the Big Walnut Missionary Baptist Church.

The event will take place at the Reelsville Fire Department and will begin at noon. It is scheduled to conclude at 2 p.m.

Donations would be appreciated.
