JASPER -- Northview's softball team went up against some of the state's top teams during a three-game stretch at Saturday's Jasper Invitational.
Each of the three games was against a team receiving votes in the state coaches' poll and the Knights went 1-2, including a tough 13-inning defeat to North Posey.
In the opening contest, Jasper, eighth-ranked in Class 3A, scored early and late on the way to an 11-4 win over the Knights.
Lindsay Thomas went 3-for-4 at the plate for Northview with a double and an RBI. Senior classmate Traci Sanders was 2-for-3 while freshman Jessica LaTourette had a double and an RBI.
In the second game, the Knights jumped out early to a 4-0 lead, but Class 2A's 17th-ranked North Posey, rallied against Katie Smith.
The Vikings took advantage of six Northview fielding mistakes in the game and rallied to tie the score in the bottom of the fifth frame.
From there, the team's matched a single run in the seventh to head to extra innings where they scored one apiece in the eighth, two in the ninth and one each in the 12th inning.
In the top of the 13th inning, the Knights scored one more time, but the Vikings came back to score twice in the bottom half to claim the win, 11-10.
Sanders went 3-for-6 with three doubles and two RBI and Thomas added three more hits with a double and an RBI. Shelby Colson added a double with LaTourette picking up two hits and an RBI in the loss.
In the finale, the Knights won a pitchers' dual against 2A's No. 9 Forest Park, 1-0 as Colson went the distance in the victory.
She also went 2-for-3 at the plate, Sanders had a hit and Erica Conrad had one hit. LaTourette had the lone RBI for the Knights.
Northview is now 7-5 overall and 2-0 in the WIC and hosts West Vigo at 5 p.m. today.
