On Wednesday afternoon, Clay City Jr./Sr. High School and Clay City Elementary experienced a power outage due to an electrical transformer and related wiring that caught on fire.
No students were in danger at any time and no damage or injuries were reported. Students were moved to the gymnasium when the power outage occurred.
Due to the outage, it will not be possible to conduct classes at either of the campuses in Clay City and the Clay Community School Corporation has subsequently cancelled classes for all school for Thursday, May 8.
"It is written in the Superintendent's policy that if there is a problem in one area, then it affects all of the schools," CCS Director of Buildings and Grounds Tom Reberger said.
All extra-curricular activities scheduled for Thursday at Clay City High School and North Clay Middle School have also been cancelled. However, the Clay City girls' softball team should report to Clay City High School for departure at 3:20 p.m., for their scheduled game at Eminence.
Extra-curricular activities at Northview High School will be held as scheduled.
The Brazil Times will provide updates as they become available.
