The United Way of the Wabash Valley is pleased to announce the appointment of Troy Fears as the United Way's new executive director. Nick Mahurin, president of the United Way Board of Directors stated, "The search committee did an outstanding job and interviewed many capable candidates. Troy Fears was their recommendation, and I am pleased to report that the board ratified the choice and he has enthusiastically accepted our offer."
A Terre Haute resident, Fears comes to the United Way from the Vigo County School Corporation where he has been employed for the past 12 years, most recently in the capacity of the Terre Haute South High School Principal. Danny Tanoos, Vigo county School Corporation Superintendent stated, "Troy Fears has been a great educator for our school corporation as a classroom teacher, athletic director, assistant principal and principal. Over the years, he worked well with students and staff while the school thrived academically under his leadership. The opportunity at the United Way came available at the right time in Troy's career to allow his talents to be better utilized in the community at large. The Vigo County School Corporation supports Troy in his decision and he will be greatly missed."
Mr. Fears holds a master's degree in Secondary Education Administration from Indiana State University, Secondary Teaching Certificate in the areas of Journalism and English from Indiana University and obtained his undergraduate degree from Purdue University in Communications. He has an extensive background in management, fundraising and secondary education.
Fears responded to his new position by stating, "I was drawn to the United Way because of their lasting community involvement and commitment to children. My career in the field of education has helped students and people within the community, and this opportunity with United Way allows me to broaden my scope and become a stronger asset to the Wabash Valley. I look forward to the challenge that lies ahead with United Way."
As he executive director of United Way, Fears will be responsible for the management and leadership of he organization as well as the complex role of resource development. Sally Zuel, search committee chair stated, "United Way is very excited to engage Troy Fears as the new Executive Director. His wealth of experience, leadership and dedication to the community will prove invaluable in the future." Mr. Fears will begin transitioning into the executive director role on June 16, and will assume the position in full on June 23. The current interim executive director's, Dr. J. Robert Quatroche, last day will be June 20, 2008.
