The postseason paths were chosen for softball teams around the state on Thursday as the IHSAA drew sectional opponents for all four classes.

In Clay County, both Northview and Clay City found out what opponents stand between them and a sectional championship.

The Eels are the defending champion in the Clay City Sectional and have designs on a repeat performance.

Northview hasn't tasted the same success as the Eels, but are hoping to hit stride in time to bring home the hardware at the Martinsville Sectional.

Sectional 62 isn't for the faint of heart, claiming three state-ranked Class A teams.

The Eels are one of those squads, boasting a 10-4 record through Thursday along with a No. 8 ranking.

North Central comes in as the No. 7 ranked team and has a 14-4 record overall. White River Valley has a 9-6 record and is currently No. 20 in Class A.

Last year's sectional was one for the ages, especially the championship game that went 15 innings before the Eels grabbed a 1-0 win and a berth in the regional.

The Eels scored a 5-2 win over Turkey Run in the opener of the North Daviess Regional, but came out on the losing end of a 1-0 13-inning decision to Tecumseh, the eventual state runner-up to Indianapolis Lutheran.

This postseason, opening round match-ups include what should be a great opener between Shakamak (13-4) and White River Valley. Union (Dugger) (8-6) faces the Eels and in the bye game, North Central (Farmersburg) faces the winner between the Lakers and Wolverines.

The Eels downed the Bulldogs 5-4 in an April 28 contest and defeated the T-Birds 2-0 on April 21.

As if the Class 4A No. 7 ranked Artesians needed any help, Martinsville hosts Sectional 13 once again this year and has a 14-2 record to this point.

Northview has to improve on its regular season efforts against sectional foes, losing to Terre Haute North, Plainfield and Mooresville. The Knights have had success however against their opening opponent, Terre Haute South.

The Braves have fallen 17-9 and 8-1 to Northview.

Plainfield meets Terre Haute North in the other opening game with Mooresville and Martinsville slated to face off in the bye bracket game.

The Pioneers are the defending sectional champions with a 3-0 win over the Patriots last year.

Northview was the hard luck loser in the bye game last year, falling 2-1 in 10 innings last year.

Sectional play begins on May 19.
