The Brazil City Police Department confirmed Thursday that a Clay County man was arrested late Wednesday for alleged involvement in the molestation of a child.

Although details are limited due to the ongoing investigation, Det. Clint McQueen told The Brazil Times that Joseph A. Short, 32, was initially booked into the Clay County Justice Center on a preliminary class C felony charge of child molestation on a juvenile under the age of 14.

But, upon review of the probable cause statement filed by McQueen Thursday, Clay County Prosecutor Lee Reberger said Judge Joseph Trout added an additional count of battery, which occurred with the same individual but happened during a separate incident.

Short is being held in jail on a cash bond of $25,000 with no 10 percent allowed.

Further details are being withheld due to the ongoing investigation, but Reberger said Short should be formally charged early Monday morning.

i'm glad they caught him before it happened again. there should be no tolerance for child molestation. hopefully he gets the maximum sentence. i know if it was one of my children i would want him to be put away forever. hopefully people remember this and never let their children around this person ever again
