Northview tennis team advances in sectional

GREENCASTLE -- Northview's tennis team marched on in sectional play with a 5-0 sweep over Linton on Thursday evening.

In match moved to DePauw University's indoor facility in Greencastle, the Knights proved just as hard to beat against the Miners, an earlier season victim of Northview.

Allie Melega dominated much of her match in sweeping past Abbey Burris at No. 2 singles, 6-0, 6-0 and Ali Rentschler took a 6-1, 6-2 decision against the Miners' Megan Sparks at No. 3 singles.

Melega improves her impressive season record to 16-1 overall while Rentschler bumps her mark to 12-5 this year.

In the No. 1 spot, Jazmine Kellum came through with a 6-4, 6-3 victory against Lauren Karazsia to advance to 13-4 this year for the Knights.

Northview's doubles teams also had strong matches to begin the postseason.

Andrea James and Bonnie Froderman put together a 6-1, 6-2 win against Ashley Sparks and Jessica Yuodzukinas and at No. 2 doubles, Northview got a 6-3, 6-0 win by Olivia Kumpf and Hannah Pond.

Kumpf has not been beaten in her current spot, boasting a 13-0 mark while Pond improves to 15-2 this year. Froderman moves to 12-5 and James is now 12-2.

Greencastle and Owen Valley play in today's first match at 5 p.m. followed by Northview and South Putnam scheduled immediately following that match.
