Carbon United Methodist Church

By Mary Egloff

Mother's Day means so much to everyone. The church people are no exception. Mothers were honored last Sunday with a special Mother's Day message and beautiful geraniums. We were happy to have several guests with us for that special day.

We were also very happy to have Pete and Beverly Taylor back among us Sunday. Pete is recovering from heart surgery, and doing quite well now.

Ernie and Mary Egloff were in Dayton attending their granddaughter's graduation from Miami University in Oxford, so it was a big day for them also.

This Saturday, the church is sponsoring the "Music For The Soul Festival" at the Carbon Fire Department's Pavillion from 1-4 p.m. Several gospel music groups will be playing their own style of music, so there should be something to please everyone. The church will be selling cold drinks to raise money for the Food Pantry. The concert is free, so everyone bring your lawn chairs and join the crowd! We are all excited about it and hope you will be too.

Sunday, May 18, there will be a special Charge Conference held during the 10:30 a.m. morning service at which the congregation will be asked their permission to incorporate the church. This is just a legal procedure, but a very important one to the church. Everyone is urged to be present for this meeting.

There will be a Board Meeting on Monday, May 19, at 7 p.m., at which time the Administrative Board will officially vote whether to incorporate or not according to the wishes of the congregation. People of the church are urged to attend this meeting also.

The Believer's Women's group will meet on Tuesday, May 20, at 7 p.m. Rose Reynolds will be the hostess.

Vacation Bible School is approaching very rapidly now. It will be June 9-13. If you have not agreed to help yet, please do so. We need everyone's support and help.

Please attend church this Sunday. Worship is at 10:30 a.m. and Sunday School is at 9:30 a.m.

Good Morning. Do you think we've had enough rain? Are you getting really tired of it and wish the sun would shine again? Well, let me share something with you that I read. It could give you a completely different view about rain. There are times when we need to wash away all of our troubles to get freshness into our lives. Since the most cleansing substance on this earth is probably water, we can think of the joy rain brings as an energetic bath, rejuvenating our minds, bodies and soul. Just being able to spend a few moments every time it rains to become aware of the healing power water brings to us can renew us in so many ways. As we do this, the more we can see that a gentle rain shower is a strong reflective tool that has the ability to cleanse us completely Rain physically washes over the earth and rinses out all impurities and imperfections. Also, rain bathes our spirit in the joy that comes from knowing that we are one with the world around us. Don't you agree that after a good rain, everything smells so clean and refreshing? That's the way we should feel after being in church on Sunday. I suggest you visit us Bee Ridge Congregational Christian Church to experience that feeling. After all, the Son is shining all the time at Bee Ridge.

Most of you know where Bee Ridge Church is, but just in case you are new to Brazil and have never read the Church News in the Brazil Times, I will be glad to let you know where we are located. We are 1.4 miles north of Northview High School on Kennedy's Crossing Road. Sunday School for both children and adults starts at 9:30 a.m. while church for both starts at 10:30 a.m. See you there.

God be with you till we meet again.

Hello again from Eastside Christian Church. We hope all you mothers had a great day last Sunday.

It was good to have Ann back at the piano. Millie and Ann make wonderful music together. You are both blessings to our services.

The following students will be graduating from Northview on May 30, and we want to wish them well: Christin and Kelsy Sciotto and Justine Doyle.

Vacation Bible School is almost upon us. Please pray for it. Also, pray for the director, Karen Shrader, who has been in the hospital with pneumonia. Vacation Bible School will be June 9-13 from 6:30-8 p.m. each evening, with the closing program being the May 13. Please plan for your child to attend. They will have a good time and also learn more about God.

If you haven't heard any of Pastor Bill's messages on the Beatitudes, you have missed out. Most of us know a little about them, but do we live by them?

We also want to congratulate Holly Oehler and Bill Whitaker, who are being married this morning. May God bless you both.

We want to keep these in our prayers: Steve Brown, the Jeff Snider family, Matthew Shrader, Lyle Monnett, Rick Starr, Rob Walden and Jessica Little and anyone else who is in need of prayer.

If you are not attending church anywhere else, we would love to have you be with us. Our Sunday School for all ages is at 9:30 a.m., and our worship service is at 10:30 a.m. We do offer a childrens' worship for ages 3-7 during the 10:30 a.m. service, where they learn about God and Jesus on their level. Our Sunday evening service is at 6 p.m., and we offer a Bible study and prayer service at 7 p.m. on Wednesday evenings. The men are having a Bible Fellowship at the church on Saturday mornings at 8 a.m. All men are welcome to come join them. We will have some news about youth meetings in the near future. And this another way God is blessing our church.

Until next time, we need to read our Bibles and pray everyday. God is good, and He is listening.

Hello, from your friends and neighbors at Otter Creek Christian Church.

Hope that everyone enjoyed their Mother's Day. A lot of thanks go out to all the men and women that made our Mother's Day dinner such a success. If you are looking for a friendly church that still has not lost their first love, then consider giving us a try. We have Sunday School classes for all ages and a very spirit-filled worship service. We also are starting a youth group meeting on Sunday evening. I am sure that you will find an area in our church that ministers to you.

The verse this week is from John 1:12: As many as receive Him to them?He gave the right to become children of God, to those who believe in His name.

Common bumper sticker says "Christians aren't perfect - just foregiven." The true church is made up of people who have come to faith in Jesus Christ, those who are Believers. True followers of Christ are marked by what they believe about themselves and their Saviour. Throughout their lives, they entrust themselves to One who has done for them what they could never have done for themselves. Those who believe in Christ are on a journey of personal growth that is meant to last a lifetime. At best they live out their years learning from the Bible, From the Spirit of God who lives within them, and from other spiritually mature people who have discovered for themselves what it means to rely on Jesus.

On May 18, at 10:40 a.m., Brother Jeff Flater from Clay City will be with us to share about his trip to Haiti and will bring the morning message, with special music being featured.

There will be a youth meeting at 5 p.m. to discuss future activities for the youth.

Our Sunday Service times are 9:30 a.m. for Sunday school for all ages, 10:40 a.m. Worship service, and 6 p.m. evening service. Bible study is on Tuesday at 9:30 a.m. and 7 p.m. For more information call, 446-5300 or Pastor Brattain at 446-4007. Church is located at 6299 N. Crow Street, Brazil.
